The Rocky Mountains have enough vistas to keep us painting for the rest of our lives! What gorgeous country! I love the cloud shadows and the interesting patterns they make on the countryside. There is always a variety of colors and textures…I could go on and on… Needless to say, I am in love with this country! I try to take my viewers on a little trip through the painting to experience the landscapes we so often take for granted. Enjoy!!

This painting was selected to appear in the North Metro Art Association annual "Colorado Visions" Show at Westminster City Hall. It is always a pleasure to be in this wonderful art show.

Maui Shoreline 3...Rae Andrews

Although this is an older pastel I did a few years ago on Maui, and the original is no longer available, I still wanted to post it today.

I used to sit for hours on the shores of Maui, just watching the waves.

I know many of the artists out there have done the same thing.
It is mesmerizing and very challenging to paint.

One has to recall a lot from the imagination, and I find I get into a sort of 'RHYTHM' with the subject, and try to 'FEEL' the movement.

I actually love this image I did, maybe the colors, but always WATER paintings will bring me great joy.

This is a pastel on sanded paper, 19.5 x 25.5"

Prints are available through Fine Art America:

Fall Mirror...Rae Andrews

Another pastel on sanded paper.

I find this surface far more laborious than the velour to paint on, but a challenge is always good for us, right?

FYI..I rarely smudge with my fingers, I let the pastel do it for me with overlays.I find that keeps my colors glowing and cleaner.

This was on a quite dark valued brown/red paper..
Also another reason it was more laborious for me, I was constantly nudging my lighter values for contrast.

This is 14 x 18" unframed pastel on sanded paper.
$350 plus S/H.

Prints are also available through Fine Art America:
