Staged Strawberries by Ria Hills

7" x 7" pastel painting
unframed

These strawberries were originally painted for a start-up business but the project died. I'm happy to be able to finally share this piece. There were many strawberries that applied for the modeling job, some were consumed, including these little guys.

The painting can be cropped to 5" x 7".

pink frosted cupcake by Ria Hills

pink frosted cupcake pastel painting
6" x 6" pastel painting
surface: pastelbord, unframed

This reference for this cupcake painting is a photo I used for the most recent Shoot and Paint art challenge. If you are a painter we would love to see your version! The photo will be available at ShootandPaint on December 1st.
It's been more than a month since my last finished small works painting. I've missed it and I'm continually trying to schedule better than in the past. The good news is that I have a few commissioned paintings to work on and just finished a painting for an Apocalypse theme show which was so much fun!

overflow by Ria Hills

chocolate fudge pastel painting
8" x 8" daily pastel painting
unframed

My son Jesse was mindful enough to photograph the spill in the microwave when he was preparing an ice cream sundae. He thought it would make an interesting photograph and I knew it needed to be painted!

Now that it's finished I want to create some more spills.
I decided against painting the details of the label partly because I don't want to advertise and I also like the cleaner look of it.

strawberry heart by Ria Hills

strawberry heart pastel painting
5" x 5"daily pastel painting
unframed

I thought a valentine theme might be fun for a few paintings this month. When is it anyway? I think the last time I celebrated this holiday was when I passed out cards in my grammar school class. My husband and I love each other nonetheless.
I think the strawberry should be the fruit icon for Valentine's Day. It's such a voluptuous fruit . . . read more.

Foiled by Ria Hills

Foiled chocolate bar pastel painting
8" x 8" daily pastel painting
unframed

Well almost foiled! I had quite a setback with this painting. The foil used for the candy bar was so thin that it tore when I unwrapped it and it wrinkled immediately. It was quite a challenge.

breakfast egg by Ria Hills

5" by 7" daily pastel painting

It's quite a challenge to get the composition right with an egg. I cracked two eggs this morning and the yolks kept moving around to the side. And getting those shells to stay where I placed them in the albumen . . . I  must have taken at least 30 photos for this little painting before the composition worked for me!  . . . . .click here to read more and find out how to purchase this painting.
