This is my second entry into the Balance Challenge.  I painted it in pastel because I thought it would be easier with all the detail,but it still took more time than I thought!  I learned to play Mahjong about 6 years ago.  I had bought a set on eBay because I loved the floral tiles.  The game had some blank tiles, so I ordered stickers for them to be the joker tiles.  I never learned to play until a friend bought into a retirement village in Florida,learned and came back in the Summer and taught a few of us how to play.

A Brief History of the Beckwith Ranch:

The Beckwith Ranch, established in 1874 by brothers Elton and Edwin Beckwith, was at its peak one of the largest cattle operations in Colorado. Sons of a wealthy shipbuilder from Mount Desert Island, Maine, Elton and Edwin brought cattle from Texas in 1869 for the miners in Colorado with Charles Goodnight, one of the legendary founders of the western cattle industry.

We are in Crested Butte, Colorado now.  This is the view from the cabin we are visiting.  There are mountain peaks all around, and this is only the view to the west.  We are really high up!  Must be 9,000 feet.  Most of the peaks are about 14,000 feet.

The day we visited this site, the wind was very, very strong!!!!  So, we took many pictures and I looked at my picture on my laptop back at home base and did this painting.

"Telluride Spring" pastel painting en plein air

We are visiting friends in Telluride, Colorado.  This is the first time I have been there.  The snow-capped peaks around the village are AMAZING.  I did this painting en plein air today from the deck of the house, and, I gave it to our host and hostess for a thank you gift.

Last year I went to The Clearing Folk Art School in Ellison Bay Wisconsin for a workshop with Frankie Johnson.  While there our group of painters met the two other groups taking workshops for the week.  One was a group of knitters, and one was a group of printmakers.  Al had come to the Clearing with his wife.  He told us when he had married his wife a few years earlier, he realized she was crazy about knitting and spent 90% of her time reading about it, shopping for it , knitting and taking workshops.  He figured if he wanted to spend much time with his wife he had better learn to participate in her obsession!

     THIS IS MY LATEST ENTRY INTO THE DAILY PAINTWORKS CHALLENGE.  IT IS CALLED "OUTSIDE MY WINDOW" AND WAS PRESENTED BY ANN FELDMAN.  THIS IS THE VIEW FROM MY FRONT ROOM, WHICH IS WHERE I HAVE MY COMPUTER.  I LIVE IN A TOWNHOUSE AND HAVE A 10 FOOT BY 10 FOOT COURTYARD THAT HAS AN ASIAN THEME.  THERE IS A STONE WALKWAY WITH THE PAGODA AND A BENCH BESIDE A BAMBOO SPOUT THAT TRICKLES INTO A STONE BASIN.
